Also my keyboard had an update 2 days ago so i updated it and it seemed like it started after that i have version 5.4.70.7. do you guys have that version as well?

Do you have a lot saved to the clipboard? Since I think that's part of the keybaord app, maybe something in a saved item is causing a glitch.

Can it be using the most power because i have the Edge lighting that comes on for every message i receive? I dont think edge lighting has anything to do with the keyboard though.

This is seriously not making me want to keep this phone!

My s10 plus keyboard settings were the same and i never had samsung keyboard at the top of the list for battery consumption.

I'm not sure, but I understand the frustration. Have you tried the Google keyboard (or any other alternative) to compare? I agree it's unusual, but just trying to think about whether you can identify another app is keeping it open or something vs an issue specifically with the Samsung one.

I use Gboard and it doesn't even show up in the battery list. Before I switched to Gboard, the Samsung keyboard was definitely not behaving like this - probably a software bug or incorrect battery usage reporting. I bet if you switch keyboards or even switch to something else and switch back, it will fix it.

It also could just not be reporting properly yet. Given that your screen has been on for nearly 2 hours, and you have nearly an hour of usage between Chrome and YouTube combined, plus whatever else isn't in that screen shot, you haven't lost an unreasonable amount of battery life (looks like you used around 25%). My guess is that it is still optimizing everything and thus isn't giving you accurate battery usage statistics yet.

The phone finished its learning patterns 2 days ago and i had this phone for 7 days already.

I think i may have found the reason why the samsung keyboard is consuming the most power. I noticed i have the Edge lighting that comes on for every text message i receive and i just noticed on my old phone the s10 plus i did not have the lights going on around the screen for every text message i received so that is probably why its consuming so much and also i mostly kept my phone on vibrate throughout the day and now i have all the sounds on. I will update you guys how its doing tomorrow.

For those affected by the Samsung Keyboard eating battery, try Settings>Apps>Samsung Keyboard>Storage

Clear cache and clear data.

Try again.

I used the Samsung keyboard for the first few days, as I noticed a s-pen feature that required it, but in the end I switched back to Swiftkey which has been my go to keyboard for years.

I use edge lighting (Fireworks setting), for texts, emails, & several apps. My Samsung keyboard (vr. 5.4.20.21) does not show up on the battery usage list. I wouldn't think the two would be connected, but I'm glad your troubleshooting it just in case.

I have version 5.4.70.7. though. I will see if it comes up tomorrow with how i changed things if not im gonna uninstall the update on it and see what it does.
