I have a Note8. I see that we are not getting the update until March of 2019! Is it really that difficult to release an update to the Note8 and Note9 at the same time?

No it's not. Google should throw their weight around with the carriers and such, like Apple does.

I would imagine that because the 9 is project treble and the 8 is not that the 8 requires more work and testing for Pie

From what I remember seeing, unfortunately the Note(s) have not been included in the Treble program yet.

If I remember, Treble won't work unless it was Pie out of box and not upgrade.

Won't matter anyways... I think Treble will be a broken concept because even though Google can push updates for OS related stuff regardless of OEM or carrier, updates on hardware components and OEM/carrier specific software (like OneUI) will still have to come from them. Like Verizon using their own tweaked message app on certain phones in the past. Could cause more breakage then fixes.

S9 onwards are as far as I know so Note 9 should be

Samsung always does this, they wait until the launch of a new phone to release the new version of Android. Once the new phone is out, then previous flagships get updated.

They heavily skin Android and add features, I think they want to introduce all the new features with a new handset rather than update an existing one with new features first.

No, not really, with the Android and vendor portions split. They could just have added the Note 8 vendor code to the Pie update.

But they don't want to.

It is Oreo out of the box which kinda sucks for us Note 8 owners but hey... What a great excuse to get the Note 10 next year
