Why is the notification sound being repeatedly when I unlock my phone?

When I get an email (Gmail account) and I swipe to open the email and unlock my phone, the notification sound that plays when I get a new email immediately starts playing over and over. It will play about 5-10 times and then stop. This has happened multiple times in the last two weeks and only with that notification sound - not my new text message sound, Facebook sound, anything else. The glitchy sound is also my default sound, so I changed it to see if that would help and now it's just playing the new sound over and over. I'm thinking it's a Gmail problem? Could not find any answers online.

Can try clearing cache in the Gmail app and force stop it see if it fixes it.

My moto Z does this, too. Except it's any time I open something from the lock screen. Texts, emails, Duolingo, pick your poison. Clearing the caches of apps didn't resolve it. I also uninstalled updates. That didn't solve anything either.
