Why is there an area at the top of my phone that doesn't work?

AC Question

why is there a area as the top of my phone that doesn't work

I have a random area at the top of my screen that will not work. It's a straight line right across the top. I've reset my phone, it's updated but i still can't figure out why the screen won't work on that "line"

Welcome to Android Central! Do you mean that it doesn't register touch there? If you switch to landscape orientation for an app, is it still the same absolute area that is insensitive (i.e., now the left side while in landscape)? The digitizer is probably faulty.

Just to be sure it isn't an app that's causing problems, boot into Safe Mode. Which phone do you have? Safe Mode steps can vary from phone to phone.
