Why isn't my device getting connected to my computer via usb?

[AC Question]

My device is not getting connected to my computer via usb

my computer does not show the option of my device- Galaxy Note 1 even after i have connected it with a usb cable. My phone starts to get charged but it also does not show that it is connected to my computer via usb.
