Why isn't my lock screen asking for my fingerprint?

Lock Screen Not Asking for Fingerprint

I set up my lock screen to be unlocked by a fingerprint scan, set up the scan, and put the correct setting on. It says that the fingerprint scan to unlock is activated/selected, but the phone unlocks with just a swipe.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? There is usually a setting for how long to wait while asleep until the phone locks again. So if you set it to 2 minutes, the phone could still be opened with a swipe within 2 minutes of falling asleep. On my Nexus 5, it's Settings>Security>Automatically Lock.
