Why lack of home screen alerts?

Let me explain what I mean. On my Samsung, on the home screen, via small numbers, it would tell me how many unread emails or texts or missed calls, etc I had. I don't get this in the Pixel. I have to tap the relevant icon and go to another screen to see, e.g., if I have a text. There is a sound notification, but I find that irritating and turned it off. Is there a way to mimick what the Samsung does?

Number of notifications on home screen icons is not part of stock Android.

You'll need to use a different launcher such as Nova Launcher, along with the Tesla Unread plug-in.

I dislike the pixel launcher for this same reason. I downloaded the app from play Store called Notifyer Unread Count so I could get the typical unread counts and notifications. Just another option if you don't want to change your stock launcher...

You don't look at your notification bar? That shows there's a text...not how many, but that there are some there.

I tried Notifyer and it would play up with emails. So uninstalled it. Was ok but meh....no biggie for me.

That has never been part of stock Android. All your notifications are available through the notification drop down. I prefer it that way. Plus, you can reply right from those notifications.

That's exactly what I love quick reply from notification bar

Thanks. I have never tried changing launchers before. Is there much to it?

Another vote for Nova + Tesla unread.

Take some time to set it up just the way you want it. If you move to a new phone that setup can be backed up, restored and instantly the way you like it.

Custom launchers are pretty much the strongest reason to chose Android over iPhone. Make the phone yours.

Unread counters are a terrible idea if you have any hope of being productive during the day.
About the only thing worse is getting an alert for every email that comes in!

That is sonetbibg I definitely missed while using stock Android! How are you liking the Pixel otherwise? :)
