why no 5G indicator (Verizon)?

I got my P5 today and I live in an area with 5G nationwide service. However my Pixel only shows LTE indicator. Is there something I have to do to get 5G?

My device picks up 5G on LTE or Global. Global allows it to work on GSM networks when roaming.

I just chatted with vzw tech support. They told.me.my phone has a 4g sim in it and that's why I don't get 5g signal. The sim.came with my phone so I don't know if that's true or not.

That's false.... You don't need a 5G SIM to pick up Nationwide 5G. I am picking up 5G with my LTE SIM. I don't have UltraWideBand in my area and I would have to pay extra on my plan anyway. I spoke with Verizon about getting a new SIM and was told I won't need it for UWB either. They would provision it. I won't know if that's true until it happens but that's what I was told.

With a new carrier device they should ship a 5G sim but I'm not sure they do. I'm on an unlocked model with a SIM that's at least 4 years old and picking a 5G Nationwide signal.

I noticed they shipped my iPhone with a VZW 5G sim... I decided afterwards to call customer service and order one for my Fold.. I'm not in 5G area near home but I figured why not... Old sim worked fine but I wanted both phones the same...

Are you seeing a 5G indication on your phone? I just received my Pixel 5. It came with a SIM that I activated. I have been through several 5G areas, and never saw the indication change from LTE. I went by a store today, and the Rep said that I will only see a change when I go into an UltraWideband area - then it will show UW. Who knows if that is accurate???

Not true. I have 5g low band Verizon right now. i don't live anywhere near 5gmm. If I go into my basement it flips to LTE.

I stand corrected....there is a new SIM in the phone. We were in different states when it arrived and she thought I meant "check for SD card...". . Whoops. Once I get it all setup for her I'll see what it displays. We don't live in a 5Gmm area, but are supposedly in the new 5G lowband coverage.

Verizon stated that the Pixel 5 doesn't support nationwide out of the box only UWB, the update per Verizon is supposed to push out this month

That would be strange considering some phones are showing 5G already
