I have a Stratosphere I with Android 2.3.7 and often the phone becomes extremely slow to respond.
During a period when the phone is still responding at normal speed, if I go to Settings->Applications->Memory Usage->Running, the memory usage of the applications is listed as follows:
Settings - 17 MB
Google Services - 5.1 MB
Facebook - 27 MB
DRM content - 2.2 MB
Factory Test - 1.7 MB
SyncMLSvc - 2.9 MB
Digital clock - 2.6 MB
SNS - 0.00B [says "Restarting..."]
Google Services - 16 MB
VVMService - 3.5 MB
Media Hub - 3.6 MB
Wi-Fi sharing manager - 1.4 MB
Email - 3.4 MB
Maps - 6.3 MB
Maps - 0.0B [says "Restarting..."]
Maps - 7.5 MB
SecPhone - 1.6 MB
Sync Service - 3.0 MB
Samsung keypad - 11 MB
But the bottom of that screen also says "RAM: 221MB used, 79MB free". However if you add up the memory usage numbers for each of the apps listed above, it only adds up to 115 MB. So I assume the rest of the RAM is being used by the operating system so it's not listed as being used by an application. (I'm also not sure why some applications are not listed -- for example I have Words With Friends running but there's no listing of how much memory it's using.)
During times when the phone is slow and unresponsive, the "RAM:" usage is higher, so I assume that's probably correlated. But how do I prevent it from happening? I can't reproduce any specific actions that cause the memory usage to shoot up.
Are there diagnostics that will tell me more specifically what's using all that memory if it's not something listed under "Applications", or ways to reduce the memory usage?
