Why take off the factory screen protector?

Hey there,

I got my tablet last week and overall I'm really happy with it.

I kept all the plastic on until my poetic keyboard case arrived, so it would be protected, etc.
I took the liberty of purchasing a screen protector at the same time and they arrived today, so I literally just removed all of the rear facing plastic and put it into the leather cover, and was about to look into applying the screen protector when the thought struck me;

The one that's on it from the factory seems to work perfectly and has absolutely no bubbles or problems with it that I can tell.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't just leave that one on, or am I perhaps inhibiting the sensitivity of the screen? From what I can tell it works perfectly.

Many thanks in advance.

if it looks fine to you, then go for it!

Some people may laugh and ask if you keep the plastic on your couch at home but again it just comes down to personal preference. I lift the plastic of my gs3 on for 2 weeks after i first got it, and that has writing on it! :)

I've had my N10 since november and like you, removed all the plastic except the one on the screen. I did order an Xtremegaurd screen protector a few weeks ago for if/when i need to remove the factory one. I figure it works fine so whats the point in removing it until i have to

I just hate screen protectors personally. I've been using touchscreen phones and tablets for years, and have never had any issues with scratches, save for a few rare, very tiny ones. To me, the protectors make the screen less sensitive, get dirty quicker, and I would even argue that if applied incorrectly put the screen at greater risk of being scratched (if dirt/dust gets under there). That factory installed plastic may be well-applied, but I think it still looks like crap.

The glass used on these devices is pretty scratch resistant, and it's not like a screen protector will prevent damage if my device is, for example, dropped from a height onto concrete.

On a phone, I could maybe justify using one on my phone because it spends a lot of time in my pocket...but my tab, even with the much larger screen, rarely comes in contact with anything other than my fingers. (I also don't have kids...which I'm sure helps). As "y2whisper" mentioned above, I too liken it to the "plastic cover on the couch" analogy -- I'll choose to just be more careful that slap a cheap piece of plastic on mine.

Again, just my 2?

Thanks guys.
Mixed opinion on screen savers I see.

I have kids. I'd picked out my case and screen protector before I'd even decided I was definitely getting the nexus.
I'm also a professional chef and want to use it at work. Not sure how well that one will work, but we'll see.

And, no. I don't keep plastic on the sofa :D

I think that personally, the way I see it is, I too prefer the screen without a saver, but if one is realistically going to lengthen the life of my device, then the best time to put it on is literally right away when the glass is absolutely flawless.
My other devices didn't come with one from the factory like this though.

I'll keep the armorsuit screen protector for another day.

Thanks for the input.

I've kept the factory screen protector on mine as well, seems to hold on well with the case on it too.

I kept the factory screen protector on the the first couple of weeks. Then the temptation to peel the loose edges became too much for me.

Is there a good way to save them for future use? A friend wants to try a no-glare screen protector, but also wants the option to go back to the original if she doesn't like the aftermarket one. I'm the type of person who throws away all the protective wrapping, and really makes a mess Christmas morning, but I told her I would ask.
