Why the fuss over Sprint ID?

Forgive my dumbness but I just got the Epic last weekend, what is Sprint ID? What does it do?

^^ Sprint ID? Wow, this is new to me too.

I have to see what does this do. :O

So I checked out the Sprint ID. It's not bad but now every time I press the home key, it takes me out of ADW Launcher and back into Sprint ID. Anyway to to stop that behavior short of rooting and deleting Sprint ID?

Yes there is. You have to reset your defaults. Get Home Switcher for Froyo, then use that to go back and forth to choose your launchers. Within the app disable your default launcher, which will be Sprint ID, and set ADW Launcher as your default. Bada bing, bada boom.

I may live in a fantasy world, but maybe Sprint ID is a step in the right direction. All manufacturers crave differentiation. Outside of strong arm tactics from Google, they will continue to junk up android. No matter how great we think stock android is, they will NEVER think of anyone on this forum as the average customer, and they are right.

Now imagine a unicorn gallops up to you and gives you a phone running a sprint id pack on top of gingerbread. But that's it. All the junk comes in the downloadable id packs for those who want them and you ignore it all by just never touching that one button. And maybe sprints upgrade path gets that much closer to Nexus-like speed.

Not that I know what I'm talking about or anything.

Anyone who has used Sprint ID and then gone back to Clean ID: Did Clean ID take you back to your previous settings or a default "clean ID"?

I believe clean ID is just that- a preset (like all the others) with NOTHING added. No extra apps, no background image, no widgets. Clean. If you select another- then go back to Clean - you start with a new clean slate again- I'm not sure there's a way to save your profiles- but I'm not sure as I don't have it on my phone- just tried it a bit in store.

Shame you can't reassign the Sprint ID button in the dock...grrr. This is nice if people don't use custom launchers- but rooting your phone and removing the carrier bloat frees up a lot of space. Clean ID also is ONLY a launcher/apptray- you're still stuck with Touchwiz dialer/logs/contacts/calendar/email and THATS a bigger offense to me than the silly easily replaced Touchwiz launcher.
