Why the **** won't my moment connect with cl14 update tool

Have had this phone for a little over a year. When 2.1 update first came out I had to take into Sprint store to do upgrade because I couldn't get update tool to find phone.... have seen most video tutorials on this phone. Finally got to mount sd after seeing tecnica's new vid on upating drivers.....still can't get phone to be read by updater!!!! If anyone can please help........really want to root this phone for my wife. Have rooted Heroc and Optimus S succesfully...Why the HELL can't I do this???

Are you saying that when you plug the phone in the usb port the program won't see it?

Yeah....I can access sd card on win7, but the update tool can't find the phone. Tried turning debugging on and off...removed everything and reinstalled and still no go
