Why will the Samsung S2 9.7 not recognise my fingerprint?

I entered both forefinger and thumb prints, were told they were both successful, worked a couple of times, did a reboot via (on/off button, volume and start button)and tried again - same problem, worked a couple of times and has stopped - I have to put the back-up password in each time I want to use it.

Welcome to the forums. I'm not sure why this is happening. It may be a bug in the OS. Has the device received a system update?
