Why won't Excel files open from within My Files - Galaxy Tab A (2016)?

When I tap on an excel file visible within My Files on my SD card in My Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2016), T580, Excel initiates but never loads the file. The Excel opening screen just sits there forever.

I can load the file if I open Excel first and use Excel's "open other workbooks" then navigate to the file name on my SD card.

Within My Files, I can easily open Word Documents, text files, PDFs, and PowerPoint files. Tapping on a file type automatically chooses the proper program and opens it.

How might I overcome this Excel problem.

Welcome to Android Central! Try going to the App Manager, select Excel, then Storage, then Clear Cache. Do the same for My Files -- you might have to tap Menu>Show System first.
