Why won't my messenger app load media?

[AC Question]

When using the facebook messenger app on my Samsung Galaxy S7 it won't load my media files into the chats I have open. It will instead sit with a grey "loading media" screen for upwards of 10 or more minutes before I quit. I have made sure my phone is up to date, I have uninstalled/reinstalled both Facebook and Facebook messenger all of which has not solved the issue. I know it is my phone because my wife and I both have the same phone (Samsung Galaxy S7) and our settings for both apps is the exact same, but hers will work and loads media and mine will not. Has anyone had this issue and know how to resolve it?

Welcome to Android Central! Is the media saved to Internal Storage or the SD card? If it's on the SD card, see if it works if you move it to Internal Storage.
