Why won't my Moto G7 support contact downloads to my car?

I have just changed my car to a Jaguar F Pace 2021 MY. My phone a Moto G7 Power, running Android 10, paired without any problem, but in the car, I got the screen message " YOUR DEVICE DOES NOT SUPPORT CONTACT DOWNLOADS" I had a similar problem with this phone in my previous car a Range Rover Velar but the problem was solved when I installed the Bluetooth Phonebook app. This time, the app did not solve the problem. I am aware that the developers of the app had problems with Google and they recommend deleting the original app and re-installing it via Amazon Appstore. I've done this but it still won't allow the contacts to download.

Can anyone offer any advice, please?

Welcome to Android Central! That's odd -- I've never heard of that before. I assume you've already gone to Settings>Bluetooth, tapped the gear icon next to the car system, and made sure Contact Sharing is turned on there, right?

Are you able to install the Google Contacts app from the Play Store?

Hi,

Thank you for your responses. Firstly, the Jaguar dealer hasn't a clue a says it's a Motorola issue.

Secondly, "Contact Sharing" is on but despite the fact that my phone pairs with the Jaguar without any problems I'm still getting a screen message in the Jaguar that says " Your Device Does Not Support Contact Download".

Apologies for my slow response. I'm new to Android Central and I thought I would be notified when anyone responded to my question. I didn't realise that this isn't the case.

Are the contacts synced from your Google account or some other cloud account? Or are they only saved locally on the phone? If the latter, do you know if they're saved to the SIM card instead of the local Phone Storage? (I'm not even sure this is still possible these days, but the Jaguar site did mention that the car system can't handle contacts saved to SIM, so it's worth checking.)

Also, is the car's firmware up to date?

Regarding this forum, are you using the forum website or one of the apps?

Did a tech look at the car or this was explain over the phone?

Ok,

Here's where I'm at. Yesterday my car spent 3 hours at the Jaguar-Land Rover technical centre. Not at a dealer's but at J-LR's own place. The outcome is that that whilst Motorola phones will pair without any problems ( this is for all current Jaguar and Land Rover models) they will not down load contacts to the vehicle nor will they handle previous call lists, incoming caller ID, etc.

As I stated in my original post I had this problem two years ago with a Range Rover Velar but I was advised to install an app called Bluetooth Phonebook and this solved the problem. Sadly it hasn't this time.

Anyone got any ideas, please?

Good find , thats what i thought , most of these newer cars have it especially high end .

Ironically, high end carmakers often seem to charge the owner extra for these kinds of features, rather than having them completely standard (like in more mainstream cars like Hyundai). It's been a while since I went shopping for a car, so maybe things are different now ...

Hi,
I've done that and sure enough, when it's connected by cable I get my contact list on the screen in the car. Unfortunately, when I disconnect the cable I lose the list. Is there any way I can download the contacts list and read it without being connected by cable?
