Why won't my Note 3 detect USB or detect charging?

Note 3 won't detect USB or detect charging

This has been a sudden issue, not a gradually worsening one. All of a sudden out of nowhere my Note 3 won't detect when it's connected to my PC or even when it's connected to my charger. I have tried several USB cables (incl. original) and several charging methods (direct to socket, USB desktop charger, portable battery pack) and the Note just doesn't detect it's charging.

HOWEVER... If I leave it on charge, the battery percentage continues to drop at a normal rate (and eventually turn off once it hits about 1-2%) but if I turn it on or restart it, the percentage is higher than before so though it doesn't detect the cable/charge, it does seem to.

The day it stopped working it had very little usage, it was nowhere near water, it wasn't dropped or bumped. Nothing has happened to cause this.

Any thoughts?

Seems I already have an account - I wanted to add that today I have received a new battery as I suspected this was at fault (18mo old now) but this shows the same issue, suggesting it's a handset issue

my guess is you either damaged the charging port or theres something in the port preventing it from charging.
If it came on suddenly its likely the last time it was plugged in, you may have yanked to hard, or pushed up or down causing the pins internally to break. It happens.
