Why won't my phone let me press the home button, give notifications, or make me enter my password?

A few days ago my phone just stopped working the way it's supposed to.

It won't give me any notifications or let me install or update apps. It won't make me sign into my phone using my password, and it won't let me use any of the buttons on the bottom other than the back button. I have no idea what's wrong or how to fix it. It's a 3rd generation Motorola G
