Why won't my phone notify me when I get a text?

I have a Galaxy Luna and from the day I've activated, it will not tell me when I get a text. Now, the sound works for notifications with other apps, but it just won't vibrate or play ringtones that I set for my messaging app. Messages won't even show up in the status bar. I've checked the settings in the messages a million times and I literally am so stumped. Help?

Have you tried to download a third party texting app just to see if you can receive notifications from that?

Settings... Notifications... Advanced notifications... Find the messaging app there and make sure all settings are where you want them.
Then find lock screen... Notifications in lock screen to enable how much you want to see in your lock screen.
