Why wont my Samsung galaxy s6 edge plus work?

Ok. So my mother dropped her Samsung Galaxy S6 edge plus in water, so we took it out and put it in rice over night to soak up the water in the system. When we woke up this morning, the phone wouldn't turn on so I thought it was dead. When i put it on the charger, the speaker starts crackling. When I take it off, it doesn't stop for a while, and the phone won't turn on. What did I do wrong and how do I fix it?

I don't believe you did anything wrong. That phone is not water resistant and it was dead as soon as it hit the water.

Possibly nothing wrong. I would have waited more than overnight, at least 48 hours. Dishes sometimes don't air dry overnight and they're mostly exposed surfaces.
