Why won't my Samsung Galaxy tab 3 update to a newer software version?

[Android Central Question]

I've had my Samsung Tab 3 for years now and there has been no new updates for it in a really long time. It runs on Android version 4.4.2 (KitKat) and is from (what I can find on the web) from 2013. Is there a newer verion avaliable or some way to force update my device? The mod.number is GT-P5220

Any help would be grately appreciated.

Unfortunately the last official update for that model was Android 4.4.2. Nothing after that. Only way to upgrade would be to find a custom ROM with a newer version built specifically (or listed as compatible) with your device model and flash that. If you flash a version that's built for a different device, some things might not work and you risk (even more) bricking your tablet.

Welcome as a new member. You could start with our forum section geared toward that device, there's even a section geared toward rooting, ROMs and such in that forum section.

Click in the link, then search (at the upper right) for Tab 3. Look around that forum for a sub-forum about ROMs. Look in there for custom ROMs.

The people who develop custom ROMs usually post there, not here.
