Why won't this default People app (motorola Razr HD) let me add photos?

default People app (motorola Razr HD) won't let me add photos

I go through all the steps correctly, and never see an error - but the photo doesn't drop into the space for it, and "save" doesn't help either. I choose the person, select edit, select the area where the image goes, choose photo from gallery, then choose the photo, size it, hit ok...and nothing happens.

Dumb question on my part are you hitting Save after you are done and not just leaving the contact?

Photo app opens up the camera - with no connection to the Gallery. I want to use an existing Gallery pic. I've done it before, (weeks ago) it's stopped working correctly.

edit - Okay - I took a random photo and that didn't work either. Hmm.
