Forgive me, but I had thought the s9 plus came with a wide angle lens to take wide angle pictures like the LG V30. Is there a setting to switch to wide angle?

Selfie mode has panoramic mode. I don't recall seeing wide angle though.

No such thing with the Galaxy line. Like milehigherik said, panoramic mode is the closest thing to wide angle shot.

hmm. on Samsung spec page it says wide angle camera.. rear lens. Do they mean something different? or are all the pictures taken in wide angle?

Could yoi post that link? This is the first I seen anybody claim the Galaxy has a wide angle camera. It has a telephoto camera and a wide aperture.

Many reviews and sites have mentioned wide angle and telephoto lens, but the wide angle is just a typical smartphone camera field of view.

I've never encountered those reviews lol. But anyway I Googled and yes it seems they refer to the main shooter as a wide angle camera.

I was about to post a screen shot from Samsungs website, now I don't need to.

For the OP, Samsung is referring to their regular camera as wide angle even though it's the usual field of view found on most phone cameras. Technically they have a telephoto and a regular lens, they don't have a wide lens with the field of view that LG has.

I guess it's about definition. A lens is considered wide angle when it covers a field of view between 64 and 84 degrees. The main camera has a field of view of 77 degrees. So it's wide angle.

The one on the LG is ultra wide angle at 120 degrees.

ah. thank you all for the clarification. a bit misleading from Samsung I would say. LG wide angle lens is awesome. Wish Samsung had it as well.

appreciate the clarification and that I didn't misread what they post about the camera.

It's not misleading if it's true.

It's more on lack of knowledge on the matter for general public.

I gave up the V30 for the S9 Plus. I sure hated to lose the wide angle and video audio recording thru the speakers but I wanted the better Cel signal. It is at least -4 db stronger. I had many dropped calls with the V30 and not with the 9+.

Just pick up a wide angle lens. I know it's not the same as having one built in but you'll get more options just by having a separate attachment.

Yup the short lens on the S9 is a ca 26mm equiv (for a 35mm cam) and that is “wide angle”. Not as wide as the LG, but it is truely a wide angle lens.
