widgets

Widgets are little controls or display containers that live on your home screen. Some simply display information, others allow for user interaction. Facebook, for example, has a widget that allows you to tap through the latest status updates of your contacts, as well as having a text box for you to update your own status. There is a calendar widget that displays the current date as well as the date, time, and some details about your next event.

To put it simply, they are boxes of information displayed on the home screen instead of going into the actual application. Such as the power control widget, It will allow you to turn on/off wifi (among others) instead of going into settings/wireless/wifi yada yada.

They are cool and useful but too many may slow down your home screens (your launcher) and decrease the life of your battery. Most widgets will allow you to control their update frequency. The less frequent the less battery they use.

Widgets are simply mini apps that run on your homescreen (update/display information, toggle controls/settings) as opposed to regular icons that only open apps.

?????????

Widgets is 1 of the things that set android apart from all others.

I tried longpress, then analog clock, nothing happened, then calendar pad, it said no more room, I must be missing something, or nothing?????????

When you get the no room error, it means that the widget is too big to fit in the space you have available on your screen. Trying again in a more open space will work, then you can drag the widget to it's final place, or rearrange your widgets how you like.
