WiFi activity?

The WiFi icon shows a lot of activity (the arrows) for some reason. I went to settings->Wi-Fi and is shows that even though it is connected, it is searching for a connection about every ten seconds. This occurs after the S7 is connected to my network. It can't be signal strength, because I am sitting ten feet from my router and the app shows good strength. It is draining my battery incredibly. I lost 10% in just 30 minutes.

re:

Yup thats how WiFi works. You can have a stable connection and it will still update its list of available hot spots every few seconds.
If you lost 10% battery in 30 minutes you may have other issues.

re:

This is normal. Pretty much all phones do this so something else may be causing you the drain.

This doesn't happen in other locations. For example, I visited a friend who lives 300 miles from me. I connected to her WiFi and didn't experience the search issue.

My wifi usage has increased drastically. I'm on satellite internet and am capped at 10GB a month so it's not like I have any to spare :o For the last (nearly) year, I've been having to be very careful with my usage. I knew it wasn't the cell phone usage as we're mostly using LTE. Even with two smartphones, I'd end the month with a couple GBs left. Started researching. Seems as tho Chromecast uses 8-20MB/HOUR when it's NOT in use. I have two Chromecast dongles. They were using a total of 17MB/hour. Figure that up over a month (minus the hours of 2am to 8am "free time".) The dongles are now disconnected and my wifi data usage is back to normal.

IT was still searching. The difference is at your friends place there was only 1 wifi within range of your phone to pick up. Once you connected to it it still searched but there was nothing to display.

Sounds about right. The Chromecast scrolls images when not in use. This is to prevent it from sitting on one image to long if you had the Chromecast set to be displayed on the TV.

They need to fix that. I'm certainly not the only person that can't afford to use phantom data to the tune of. My two Chromecasts were using almost all my monthly data allowance. I miss not having access to play play a slideshow or video I've taken with my super uber phone! :)

You most likely aren't the only one but you're definitely in the minority compared to how many have home internet that won't notice this type of data usage.

re:

You're right (sigh). I guess having horses and cows for neighbors and being able to see a sky full of stars at night count for something tho, right? :)
Anyway, I just thought I'd throw that out there for the OP :)

I got a new ASUS AC3200 router and it has some neat features. One of them tells me the data used in a given amount of time per device. I caught my chromecast using about 500 megs a day (24hr period) so i got in the habit of unplugging it when i dont use it for a few days.
Typically im a weekend streamer. So plug it in Friday night and unplug Sunday night or Monday morning.
Compared to my Amazon Fire Stick which hardly uses any data when not actively in use i was a bit surprised at how much data was consumed by my CC.

Someone obviously wasn't feeling well when she wrote this :( Sorry for all the mistakes!
