Wifi and GPS....question.

Does turning on wifi improve GPS signal even though you aren't connected? It says it improves gps location if wifi is on......but how??

google drove around and mapped a bunch of wifi stations.
it's used like agps tower triangulation, to speed satellite lock and maybe get more accuracy by triangulation.

Actually it uses the IP address it reads as the outside IP. An IP address is also a code that can give u the location of the router being used. Law enforcement also use this method to track down internet crimes.

funny, my VM IP is an out-of-state location (edit, right now googling my IP won't show a physical location at all!)
All I know about wifi-network location in android is that when google caused all the hoo-rah over wifi data theft while driving their street-level map vehicles around they claimed that they were logging wifi APs for mapping accuracy purposes.

oh, I haven't changed anything, it just doesn't come up on a search. For example, when I see an IP show up on my website, I can google it and find a rough location.
oops, needed the external IP was using the device IP.
my external VM IP address shows up near Wichita KS, even though I'm in central MO.
search for info on proxies if you want to bury your IP address and make it more difficult to identify you.
