Our router is a 2.4ghz linksys, not sure if that matters, but with brand new phone when I go to connect to the network and it assigns an IP, it is outside the range. It is currently giving it .17.3 where my range is .1.120-.1.130. If I click on Static and go to set info I noticed that the gateway is where it is messed up. I hate to set the phones to Static because when you try to get on another network that is setup differently you can connect, but can't get data.

Any idea on how to fix this? I tried doing static and get the gateway right, and then back to automatic, but back to square one.

OK, has no one ever had this issue or did I just not explain myself fully? I've searched the web and run across somewhat similar types of post with not true answer. Typical answer is someone was connecting to an SSID that was basic like Linksys and wasn't their network they were connecting to.

Our SSID isn't generic and have WPA2 security set, so I definitely know it is ours. I don't know if there is any difference in IPv4 vs IPv6, so not sure if that would be it. Don't have any problems with my S2 E4GT.

IPv4 and IPv6 have nothing to do with it. What is most likely happening is that you have another device linked to the router with the same IP adress. It happens. Try resseting your router by either unplugging for 1 minute and/or holding the pin reset (located on the back/bottom and is a small hole) with a pin for 10 seconds or until all the lights turn off or blink. Make sure to let the router boot all the way back up.

Then try reconnecting your phone. Make sure your using the right password to obtain access. If it still doesn't connect, use your router settings page to see what device is using that IP. There are other things we can try but those usually fix the most simplest of problems.

is there a problem obtaining an ip address outside the range you want it to be? Is it not allowing it to connect because of this?

if its a problem you can log into the router and set a dhcp reservation for your phones mac id so that it only hands out the ip you chose to that device.

It makes a connection and acts if it is on the network, but no internet access is allowed. When I log into the router it shows the MAC address of the phone, but doesn't list an IP address for it. When looking at the phone is when you see the out of whack IP address and not until I went to set it up as static, did I see the gateway, etc. was all different.

I was going to try assigning the MAC address in the router to force it, but really was wondering why it was doing opposite of what it should do. When I can steal the phone away from the user I will give it a try.
