WiFi bars? Blue vs. Grey?

Hey guys, I'm new to android and recently bought an Atrix 2.
I have a question about the WiFi bars.. What is the difference between the blue wifi bars and the grey ones? Thanks in advance!

Blue means the phone is talking to Google servers so it could sync based on your settings

Grey = background data not enabled

Data and WiFi are two different things. WiFi connects you to the internet without going through your provider. Data connects you to the internet via your provider. Using WiFi does not effect your data plan at all so you are free to use it as you wish, with background data enabled or disabled. Background data just allows apps to communicate/update via whatever connectivity method you're currently on, data or wifi, in the background.
