Hello, my S24 will not automatically switch to data services when I leave wifi connection. I just dont have any services, UNLESS, I manually go back and toggle off the wifi calling button.

Why won't it make the switch automatically without me having to go back into the setting and manually uncheck the "wifi calling" toggle off?

Welcome to Android Central forums. While what Rumblee1 is suggesting may work, you're right it should happen automatically.

Just a few questions.

You mention that you have to manually take the phone out of WiFi calling but how is it getting into WiFi calling? It happens automatically in one direction but not the other, you're using a routine, you're manually turning it on when you arrive at home?

Are you using a third party launcher? Are you using stock One UI or something like Nova Launcher?

Do you have any saver apps running? Data Saver, RAM saver, or even anti virus or anti malware?

Are you using the stock dialer/phone app?

Without knowing the answers to these questions, we'll assume that you are using the stock launcher and dialer, and that you are not running any saver or anti apps. As a test you could power up your device in Safe Mode, turn on WC, and then unplug your router or leave its vicinity to see if it switches. This test can sometimes tell us if you have a bad app or if it is somehow a system app or issue.

In the meantime Gemini says this.

If your Samsung phone isn't automatically switching off Wi-Fi calling mode when you have a strong cellular signal, it could be because your settings are set to "prefer Wi-Fi calling" instead of allowing the phone to automatically switch between networks based on signal strength; you might need to adjust your Wi-Fi calling settings in your phone's settings menu to allow for automatic switching. How to check your Samsung phone's Wi-Fi calling settings: [1, 2, 4]
  • Access settings: Open your phone's settings app. [1, 2, 4]
  • Navigate to calling settings: Go to "Connections" or "Mobile networks" then select "Wi-Fi Calling". [1, 2, 4]
  • Check preference: Ensure the option is set to "Prefer Cellular Network" or something similar, which will allow your phone to automatically switch to cellular data when a strong signal is available. [1, 2, 3]
Other potential reasons why your Samsung phone might not leave Wi-Fi calling mode: [3, 5]
  • Network issues: If your carrier is experiencing network congestion, your phone might stay on Wi-Fi calling even when a strong cellular signal is present. [3, 5]
  • Software bug: Check for updates on your phone's software to ensure you have the latest version. [3]
  • Carrier settings: Sometimes, specific carrier settings might affect how your phone handles Wi-Fi calling; contact your carrier for assistance. [1, 3]
