With Wifi and HD calling enabled (on VZW) Is there a way to tell in real time if my phone call is being transmitted over Wifi or LTE/CDMA? I've notice in my call log that some calls show up with an icon that looks like Wifi, too.

If you want to test put your phone in Airplane Mode but keep wifi / wifi calling enabled. You can then see if the call works.

sprint, wifi calling, the green dialer shows a wifi icon ??
trying to learn here, will be in a terrible service area next month.

Instead of the HD symbol on the top left hand corner, you'll see a wifi symbol during the actual call instead. Also shows a wifi symbol like you mentioned in call logs as well.

Or this .. This makes life easier than what I suggested lol :D.

Looks like what's happening is that it's defaulting to Wifi even when I have one or two bars of LTE showing. I was just on a call and could see the little arrows under the Wifi icon working away. On my call history, calls I've made from the house (good wifi) have the wifi icon and calls I've made on the road don't.

Nothing I'm worried about because I'm getting great call quality. I was just curious because my assumption was that it would only go to Wifi when there was no cellular signal. Maybe it has a way of choosing which is best.

It picks whatever is going to provide the best calling experience. When you only have one or two bars, phone tries to use wifi whenever it can.

Yeah I wouldn't worry. HD calls on T-Mobile use around 20 KB/sec (10 up/down) -- the bandwidth is very light for phone calls.

That is a very cool feature. I thought it was just an emergency backup kind of thing, but being able to optimize based on the best available signal is awesome.

Is there a separate "WiFi Calling Preferred" option in Settings for the TMO S7e, or is that selection strictly up to the phone's firmware? At home, I have a strong WiFi signal as well as a strong cell signal, but I'm used to my Nexus 6 just locking onto WiFi at home regardless of the relative strengths of the WiFi and cell signals. Does the S7e seem to favor LTE connections over WiFi?

I ask because the Note 7 might be my only JUMP program option for the foreseeable future, and I haven't run across a lot of discussion specifically about TMO Wifi Calling re. any of the most recent Sammy flagships.

I get that on my call logs too and sometimes when my phone is inactive, I also get a call icon with a wee Wifi icon, coming up at the top of my phone, next to where the normal icons are.
Did you find an answer as to what you think it could be? because I came to the same conclusion as you
