WiFi calls work, but not network calls!

In the last week or so, for most calls I make or receive on T-Mobile's network (St. Louis area), the person on the other end can barely tell I'm speaking, let alone understand what I'm saying. I hear them fine. When I use WiFi calling, everything works great. T-Mobile tech support recommended I turn off WiFi if I'm trying to make calls over the cell network to avoid audio interfere. I have a hard time believing that's all there is to it, since this is a new problem. Any thoughts? Hard to blame the hardware (microphone, radio) given this information. Thanks.
