WiFi Connection not consistant

I am probably not the only one with this problem, but for some reason my Xoom does not effectively connection through an access point that has WPA encryption turned on. Once the AP is set to an unencrypted connecion there is no problem. But I'm not to keen on letting my internet service hang out there for the neighborhood to use as they will.

Does anyone have any insight to this issue?

Thanks.

I had this when I first set it up... but then deleted the setup, and re-did it manually. It was fine after that. You might want to reboot somewhere in between too. I've have had no problems since.

I do not have this problem, but when I was looking through the Motorola support pages looking for information on the WiFi capabilities of the XOOM, I did see this issue addressed.

You didn't mention the type of wireless router, frequency (2.4 or 5 ghz) it operates at, or the speed you are trying to use to connect (b,g, or n). But the support FAQ's do talk about locking Xoom into one of those so it isn't hunting.

Also, without knowing the type of wireless gear in your home, I wonder if you have gear with different capabilities that may be causing the router to always switch to accommodate the slowest item in the house.

Also, you have to take into account potential for radio interference.

In my house I have a Linksys WRT45G that is locked at g speeds, and is only a 2.4 ghz router. I never have a problem.

I use WPA2 and have never had an issue or a disconnect. My routers are very new though. I suspect the router is the issue.

I appreciate the feedback. I do have the Motorola SBG900, so it is exclusively 2.4 GHz. I do have the same problem with my Droid X, but its never been a priority to fix as my laptops work, my Tivos work and my PS3 works.
But my mobile computing assets just don't work. But I'm pretty sure it is the router. I'll play around with the router settings some more and see
if I can get it working with WPA2 enabled.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I'll let you a ll know how it ends up.
