Wifi-Direct device name

I have not had any success changing the device name in the wifi-direct settings on my htc Evo 4g lte. On my wife's Galaxy S III it can be changed easily. Anyone else tried this? For some reason mine says Android_dad2, and when pressing menu all that is listed is search, Create group, and Remove group.

If/when someone helps you with this can you/them tell me how to use wifi direct? On my epic touch I could just use it like Bluetooth. I read that was just something Samsung put in it's software. My wife has a galaxy nexus and I'd like to send her big video files and don't really want to get into dropbox/cloud until LTE is up.
