Wifi Error

I am currently working in an area with very poor VZW signal, there is a secure Wifi network here at the job site that I have attempted to use. The Maxx will connect for a while but then the Wifi indicator disappears and in the Settings where the checkbox to turn wifi on and off it says "Wifi Error". Also, it seems to be drawing a whole lot more power than if the Wifi was just off and starts to kill the battery. I have tried a recovery wipe and actually 3 different phones, exchanged by VZW. The current phone is stock and un-rooted.

None of my other devices (Macbook Air, iPod touch) seem to have a problem with the network. People with iPhones and other makes of Android phones don't have a problem. I have tried to notice any one else with a Motorola Phone to see if they have a problem too, haven't located any so far. VZW has actually given me Motorola's support number but I haven't had a chance to call yet. Has anyone else ever had this problem and if so how did you solve it?

Well, looking around on the interwebs I found this thread in a Motorola Forum:

https://forums.motorola.com/posts/ccc0b71008?start=1&stop=15

It seems there are some internal IPs in routing tables of the Phone that are the same as the Gateways of some popular routers. There is no solution in the thread (Short of changing the settings in the router, not an option for me) but one post near the end hints that because of the way ICS handles things it might be fixed with the upgrade. I noticed that there are some other Motorola wifi issue threads here at AC that may be from the same problem, worth checking out anyway.

Hitting the "System Updates" menu button repeatedly (but not on Wifi)...

Well, the ICS 4.0 update did indeed fix the problem as well as some other data connectivity problems. I used to notice Google Voice and the Play store having issues occasionally when going between Wifi and Cell, no more. The great thing is, nothing appears to have been broken by the update, only fixed. Good job VZW!

Thanks for posting these updates. Even though no one else is responding, I think it's important for these followups to be available so that in the future, others can search for solutions more easily.

I've had poor Wi-Fi reception since day one compared to my other devices. Installed ICS. Not much improvement. Did a factory reset last night. Some improvement.

Compared to my other devices, the Maxx does seem to have a weaker wifi radio. Compensates for the stronger mobile radio, I guess.
