Hey, is anyone else having issues with WiFi? It seems to drop completely and only thing that fixes it is toggling the WiFi. It's slow or doesn't connect at all. And all my other devices have no issues. Have Google WiFi and gigabit connection. Help!

Are they weak connections to begin with?
I always set my Wi-Fi to avoid weak connections which solves any issues I have.

No... but every phone I've ever had has this feature advanced settings for wifi. I could be wrong in thinking Pixel has it. I cant get out to check one today at Verizon.

OP check to ensure you don't have the swap to mobile data active.

Your Google WiFi could be swapping you from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz and in that quick drop it could be thinking there is no internet.

My wifi at home is definitely not as good as it was with my 6P.
I've always connected with my 5ghz and never had drops.
Now, it drops a lot and even when it is connected, it shows a poor connection meaning that it's slower than my 2.4ghz connection.
Maybe the phone, 2xl, has a problem with 5ghz.
I'm in my office this morning and our wifi is only 2.4ghz and it seems ok.
Any thoughts?

I just did a check and it's not under the WiFi settings on the Pixel 2. But I remember what you're referring to. You'd go into WiFi settings and in the upper right you'd press the three dot button and select advanced settings. Usually it had stuff like avoid weak connections, keep WiFi on during sleep or charging, etc.

I only see mine drop to 2.4 GHz at home when I walk across the house. When on the same side as the Google WiFi router I keep 5 GHz without an issue.

My 2 XL has no WiFi issues.

The trouble with problems like this is that it is possible that there are in fact issues with the WiFi that you're trying to connect with. It may not be an issue with the phone at all.

I would make absolutely 100% certain that your WiFi has no issues before trying to troubleshoot a problem with the phone.

so I went through all the normal troubleshooting with the phone.

only thing that seemed to fix it is toggling WiFi on and off.

but I did a reset of the WiFi last night and that seemed to fix it.

I have Google WiFi with 20 plus devices connected with no issues, so it seemed odd. the other odd thing is that I can't see the device from the Google WiFi app. it's not listed, I would expect to see Android device or pixel 2, or something, I didn't go through Mac address one by one though.

it's Google WiFi mesh, three mesh locations.

I mean I never have issues, every device is fine.

now when I say devices I mean everything, so ring doorbell, IP cameras, etc...

There are quite a few WiFi analysis apps that can show if channel congestion is a problem. I am not familiar with the Google Mesh routers, are you able to manually select channels?

Google WiFi prioritizes based on usage. It basically takes all the thinking out of using one band vs another, or prioritizing ip addresses, etc...

I wasn't sure if maybe this was the same issue they saw with Pixel 1, apparently there were WiFi issues.

I mean so far it seems ok, no issues that I can tell since I have been home.

I guess it was just a glitch.

Wifi is definitely slower and less range than the Galaxy S8+ I was using before. I have tested them in the same location and the s8+ consistently shows a stronger connection and better throughput (100 mbps + difference so not minor) I am disappointed in wifi performance thus far. I have a gigabit connection at home so it's noticeable. If you have a connection that is less than 200 mbps you wouldn't know..

I was noticing how much better the WiFi on my 2 XL is than the S6 I switched from.

Granted, that's a much older phone than your S8.

I don't have any issues with my WiFi.
