My wifi keeps turning itself on an completely draining my battery. It's the worst when I'm in an area when no wifi is available since it just keeps looking for it and drains the battery even faster. I've looked through many forums and haven't found anything that works yet. The only options I've heard have been for other service providers. "Connection Optimizer" or "Smart WiFi" don't exist on my phone. I'm now with a new service provider but I bought my phone from T-Mobile and the problem started before I switched. It's a UK phone, incase that makes any difference. Any ideas on how I can fix it without having to reset my phone?

Thanks!

I'm sure you already looked for it, but is there a setting under Settings/Wifi for "Auto-Connect Wi-Fi (Allow Wi-Fi to automatically turn on)"? I have that setting on my Razr Maxx and, needless to say, I keep it unchecked.

Thanks for trying, but you're right, I've looked for that option before and I don't have it.

I was having the same problem. Go to Settings; WiFi... press the menu button then press "Advance" from there uncheck "Always allow scanning".

None of the above worked for my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 4G ... when I switch off my wifi it automatically switches back on again within seconds. And when it came on, it wasn't a proper connection - the mobile data icon would remain on and the wifi icon wouldn't appear even though wifi was supposedly "on".

So, I started disabling apps one by one - forcing off each app and then retrying the wifi on/off settings switch each time to see if it would STAY off... finally I found the culprit... an app called Dramafever - so I uninstalled it and now everything works perfectly with proper wifi on/off and mobile data icon coming on when wifi is off... perfect. I wrote to Dramafever support to let them know.

Hope this helps.

In case anyone else has tried all of the above and didn't work (which was my case). See your carrier options at setting>more networks.. Turn off connection optimizer. If you are on an MVNO carrier like me delete their app if you have one. In my case I had to delete my Straight Talk app.

I have a Samsung Galaxy mega 6.3 and my phone is doing the same I have looked or done everything that every body said to. But my wifi is comeing on automatically. Do you all think it could be an update android had . Also all I have checked for my wifi is called smart connection. Its where say im in my house and useing my home internet via wifi. And I go outside and lose my wifi connection, then it switchs to regular carrier data. Whithout any interruptions or if im playing a game it does say u lost connection . Hint the name smart connection.... SO DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE TO STOP MY WIFI TURNING ON BY ITSELF?

Go to
Settings>Connections>More Networks>Mobile Networks>Connection Optimizer And unchecked the box

Hi guys, ( My phone is Sony Xperia SP - with 4.3 android version ) I had this issue for days now, tried every thing from forcing my apps to stop to trying to update my software but the issue stand. So I started to check the setting one by one and I found it...
It was very simple :
♦Go > Setting > Power management > Location-based Wi-Fi ( this one activate Wi-Fi automatically when you are in range of a saved Wi-Fi
network ) So just turn this one off and You are good.

I hope that i helped you :)

It is most likely caused by an app you installed lately. Goto setting>application manager>tap on any suspected app and go through its permission. If it has access to activate your wifi.

Apps like Avast Anti theft. If you have that installed. It may have marked your phone as stolen. Just go open the avast anti-theft app and input you password. that should solve it.
