WiFi Problems

Well I just got my N6P. Unfortunately I already found my first problem. The WiFi drops out every 30 sec or so and reverts to LTE. There is nothing wrong with my home WiFi. I use many other devices with no problem. This is not a good start. I sure hope I don't have to send it back.

Does the Nexus 6P have that thing under Wifi - > advanced settings where it checks the "Quality" of the internet connection? I would try disabling that and see if it resolves the issue.

No issues with my home or the office wifi... both have been solid since I started my 6P yesterday afternoon. Did you try unplugging your router for a minute and then plugging it back in?

No it doesn't have that setting. Also, the auto screen brightness is pretty wonky.

No. It connects and works OK. The problem is it doesn't stay connected.

And sometimes a power cycle is good for wireless routers... I've heard some recommend this at least once a month even when it's acting ok with some devices.

Well I could try that, but I have at least ten devices that use it constantly with no problems. I had to connect via usb to transfer my music.

Actually, some recommend daily. I usually wait until the kids complain about the connection.
Honestly, some WiFi doesn't work well with some devices. If you reset the phone, reset the router, repair the connection and it still happens, I would try WiFi somewhere else. Or ask for a replacement.

And are not ou sure there aren't more settings under an advanced menu that would have the WiFi strength setting? Sorry, my device isn't here yet.

Here are the settings:

Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep
Wi-Fi Frequency band
Install certificates
Wi-Fi direct
WPS Push Button
WPS Pin Entry

That is all there is...

It seems to be settling down now. I'll keep an eye on it. BTW, what a camera!!

I've been where you're at several times over the years. There comes a point in time where you manage to lose the lottery and buy that one device that doesn't play well with your particular brand of router. My first suggestion to you is to try it on several different hotspots. At work, at stores, coffee shops etc. If you have no issues then you managed to get that unlucky toy that doesn't like your router. At this point you can either switch routers or give up the phone.

If you see this problem everywhere then my guess is that you have a unit with a defective wifi radio.

It's a new high end router that really works well on everything else. Boy, I just spent all day setting the phone up. I hope I don't have to send it back...

I have bad luck. I bought a Fire TV - had to send it back. I bought a Roku 4 - had to send it back. Now the N6P

Not WiFi related issues I hope? I just got the Netgear R8000. That thing is a beast. I'm getting 100% signal strength throughout 2 story house despite router in one corner on 2.4 and even the 5 ghz is making it to almost the whole house with lowest signal strength of 60%.

Which router? I have the Asus RT-AC68U on the way.

I have Asus RT-AC87U. It really works great with everything else - outstanding range, very strong and stable.

Oh No. I bought this router to handle QoS re: WiFi calling with Google Fi. I'm going to be pissed if I have any connectivity problems but I guess I can return it.

Do yourself a favor and don't send it back. Go somewhere else you can connect to WiFi and see if your phone holds a stable connection there.

I have this EXACT same problem on my One M8 with my work wifi. Ever 60 seconds, disconnect, reconnect. Otherwise works fine. I've tried RMAing phone for a new one, tried a custom rom at one point. Nothing worked. It works perfectly fine on every other WiFi connection I've used, including my home wifi.

Sometimes it is indeed bad luck of the draw. The WiFi built into the 6p apparently just doesn't play well with your router. At least that is my guess. Try other places and see what happens before you return.

Yeah ... but if it doesn't work I'll send back the router and get the Netgear R7000. The only reason I bought the new router was for QoS and WiFi calling over Google Fi so if that doesn't work well I'm not going to just deal with it.

Nah I wouldn't expect you to deal with it. The R7000 is a solid router, its what I have at home and easily the best one I've owned
