Never had a smart phone before, had a w995 but wifi wouldnt work on it
at the risk of sounding stupid what do I need wifi for? If I don't use it what cant I get?
is it guaranteed to work at my home, as my w995 never did, whose wifi network will I be connecting to on my phone?
what do I need it to access?
do I need security on it?

thanks

Some apps require WiFi to download. Maybe not with Market, but, I run across this frequently with the Amazon App Store. It's literally required.

If you don't have unlimited data and you use a lot of data, when you are at home you can jump on your WiFi and save yourself from using your plan data.

Using your WiFi should be faster as well.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work at your home. Just turn on WiFi on your phone, when the notification pops up that wireless networks are available, tap it, then you'll need to enter your router's password, and, your done. It'll remember it, and, whenever you are within range and turn your phone's wireless on, it'll connect. You wanna leave it off when you don't need to access WiFi though as it drains battery.

Not sure what you mean by security on it. If you mean your wireless router, and, it doesn't have a password, it should. Also, make sure to change the password to the router itself. There are two separate passwords, one to access the wireless network, and, one to access the administrative functions of the router.

#thanks for the reply , you mention wireless router and a password, I have neither, does that mean I dont have wifi and would need to access someone elses?

I will have unlimited data so that wont be a problem
will I be able to stream live sports commentary without wifi?

If you don't have a wireless router, then you don't have wifi. If you come across an unlocked router, you could link to that and surf. But it's not safest thing to do if you are going to sites like your bank or purchasing items over the internet. Wifi is faster and doesn't use your mobile data. If your phone provider has true unlimited, you're good to stream, surf, play games.

No problem, don't forget to hit the thanks button too!! :p

No, if you don't have a wireless router, you don't have WiFi. Sure you can access someone's, so long as they don't have a password set. But wireless routers aren't too expensive, and, might be worth picking one up, especially if you have a laptop, a gaming console, anything else that might benefit from a wireless network.

Okay, well, if you have unlimited data, that's good, but, like I said, some app downloads might require WiFi and you'll get data faster on WiFi.

Not exactly sure of the details, but, I would assume you'll be able to stream this. I have had no issues streaming audio or video, and, I only have a 3G phone.
