Wifi scanning

http://i.imgur.com/KYXuN.pngAn I supposed to be scanning for wi/fi networks while I'm clearly connected? And, does it matter that this thing doesn't automatically switch to "GSM only" when connected to wi/fi (note notification bar)?
I'm trying to figure out what's killing my battery.
