wifi sharing between my Alacatel OT916 and Asus transformer pad

I have a wifi only Asus transformer pad TF300T tablet running on Android 4.0.3 ICS and Alcatet OT-916 mobile phone running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. I am attempting to share internet from the Alcatel phone to the Asus tablet using the wifi hotspot feature on the settings tab on the Alcatel phone, but the shared internet is not seen by my Asus tablet. What should I do?
