I have my phone set to put the wifi in sleep mode when screen is off but checking my wifi router for connected devices it is still connected is their an app for this to get this to work i know my son's ipod touch does this it realy helps save battery . If the Fascinate did this it could only extend the battery ,I do alot of internet seaching at home and work on the wifi.

Are you sure the router knows exactly when the phone disconnects? Many do not show the device as "disconnected" until after they fail to renew their DHCP lease (24 hours, sometimes more). Try to ping the IP of the phone from your computer, if that works then you can safely say the phone's wifi isnt sleeping when it should. On the other hand, if you ask me, connected wifi is the best thing you can do to SAVE your battery. I have sleep mode turned off and i leave my wifi on any time i am in range of a good connection, and my phone lasts a LOT longer when I have a wifi connection compared to when i don't. I will leave it on overnight while i sleep, and it will only lose around 1% an hour. There are a lot of variables, like the router's support for low-power optimization, but you should give it a shot seeing how fast it drains with and without it.

As previously stated, wifi uses less battery than being on the mobile network. If you're concerned with every bit of battery, set wifi sleep to never then disable wifi from the notification bar when you're not in range of a network. This will prevent it from constantly searching for a network which WILL kill your battery. Since most people, including myself, don't want the hassle of thinking about when to turn wifi on/off, the option to just have it off when the screen is, thus you're not using the phone, is just more convenient.
