I have always used Foxfi or SVTP to use my SG3 as a hot spot and it has always worked great. It seems as though neither of these options work on the G2.

1) Is there anyway to get it working or perhaps a different wifi app?

2) Will the makers of these apps update them to get the G2 to work?

3) If all else fails, would rooting the phone be an option for getting either of those apps to work?

These apps may or may not work with updates. That is something we will have to wait on. Rooting will not help the apps working but rooting will allow you to use a different WiFi tether app they requires root access.

Adding a feature should not change unlimited.

You can easily find out by trying to make the change online. As long as you don't checkout your features won't change.

Can you add it to an unlimited plan without it affecting your unlimited? That's the boat I'm in.

You can add but it doesn't give you unlimited tether.

Yes it does in fact. Just go to Verizon's website. Go to add features and choose $30 mobile hot spot. And yes you CAN use your unlimited data for up to ten devices. I'm using it until a tether option is found. My laptop, chrome cast, surface, and ps3 have zero issues connecting.
And no, it doesn't effect your unlimited.I've added and removed this feature several times over the months when I need it.
