Wifi Tether vs. Stock app

After some thought and some help from people here I've decided to go ahead and just pay Verizon for the Unlimited Tether.

Is there a performance difference between the Wifi tether app that comes with alot of these ROMS that are out and the Stock Verizon one? Assuming I use the WiFi Tether one, will Verizon ding me in any way because I'm not going through their app?

The stock on seems to be noticeable faster why wouldn't you use it if you are paying for it?

specifically because alot of the sense ROMS I have encountered don't have or they say it just flat out doesn't work with their ROM.

I mean if the stock one is better, then ideally I'd look for a ROM where the stock one works.

I've found less issues with the stock, specifically data drops and lags.

I can feel you on this one, I recently tried several roms and the one that I fell in love with doesn't support the stock one either so I had to go back to looking, Seems Das BAMF Sense 3.0 RC4.9 is the only one that haven't gave me troubles with the wifi tether but i had issues with other parts of the rom.

Haven't found the perfect rom yet...

i had data drop problems with the stock app before and after rooting. its not just mine, my brother's aswell.

is the stock app really noticebly faster than wifi tether???
i get 25-30 mbps on my phone and 20 via hotspot right now with wifi tether

I hate the stock app. I would never pay Verizon for it. They gave us a free trial. I could never get it to work right. The 3g would go out sometimes when I turned it on or used wired tether. Would end up restarting the phone and going in and put of airplane mode to get it back. Did that on mine and my wife's phone. I find WiFi tether to be a lot better for me.

Wow thats awesome i just instealled Open Garden WIFI Tether and it works beatifully. So verizon has no way of knowing that you are using this app or even using the phone as a hub?
