Wifi trumps 3G

Is there a way that both WiFi and 3G can coexist on the Incredible. Since the upgrade to froyo, I have been having trouble at work and other places where you have to log onto a wifi network. If wifi is active, I can't access the internet or email, I get network errors despite 3G being active as well. It seems as if the phone is defaulting to wifi and if it can't access the network, it stalls and reports an error, never trying 3G. There should be a way for the phone to "see" that wifi is not accessible so it should try 3G. It seemed to work this way before Froyo.

Hopefully, this makes sense.
Thanks

I have had the same problem on a couple of public networks I have tried. It would be nice if the phone would just use 3g to gain access to what you want without having to turn off your WiFi. I have a widget with the WiFi on off and just turn it off when needed which is the only fix I'm aware of.

My Inc works with both turned on. If there is no wifi, then it automatically goes back to 3G. You may not have a 3G signal where you are located...not really sure what the reason for yours not working is though.

so i have to ask, what's the issue with your wifi then?

The issue is when there is when both wifi and 3g is available, however if you need to login to the wifi, the whole connection issue stalls. The phone can not switch to 3G automatically, you need to manually turn off wifi. This seems like a Froyo specific issue, this did not happen before the upgrade.

The issue is when you need to log in by clicking some boxes. While the phone remembers my home wifi, at work it doesn't and the same happens at starbucks or other places with free wifi that requires some acceptance of conditions.

what you need to do is in the areas where the wifi times out or is sketchy dont remember the SSID. Manually connect only, then login via the web or whatever you need to do and make sure you get connected. once connected you should have any issues and then once you dissconnect it shouldnt try to reconnect since the SSID is not remembered

Well yeah, but this is supposed to be a SMART phone, couldn't it figure it out for itself that if wifi is not accessible, give 3G a shot? Like I pointed out in the earlier posts, this only became an issue after Froyo, before the upgrade, i never had this issue.

all it is looking for is the wifi SSID to be in range, then it will try and connect if you have its info saved. if you have a weblogin you also have to complete then it doesnt know that and doesnt care. its connected to the SSID just fine, the extra step would not matter to it.

and i am not saying that is the exact problem you are having but i know it can happen in many hotels and other public wifi hotspots

Okay, I think i get it now, thanks!! Is there a fix for this, can I get it too forget the SSID so it wouldn't try to reconnect at work?

When your in range and your phone connects to the network you don't want hit menu>settings>wireless & networks>WiFi settings then long press on the network ypu want to delete.

jeez, that was easy, solved my problems, I guess the phone was Smart, the user not so.

Thanks again for your explanation and patience.
