is anyone using them for a controller? with out rooting?

It's not possible to use the wiimote without rooting.
HTC's Sense blocks the bluetooth port somehow so the Wiimote app doesn't work with HTC phones.

You have to root and take Sense off.
You can't just use another launcher. Sense runs deep into the system... you have to go vanilla.

If you're interested in rooting, it's not difficult at all and there are a lot of guides for it.
The only downside is if you use a lot of HTC widgets... i personally don't like them... so I went vanilla.

Many many threads on this.. Including ones made by me.

Currently if you root and flash to Cyanogen's CM6 for EVO with Froyo it will work with the wiiremote app.
