Now that Verizon has announced that Chicago will get 4G by end of year

I'm wondering if my DROID will be able to run on it?

if not hopefully they will let me upgrade early (I'm not due for another year)

Nope, 4G service requires a different radio(hardware).
Currently there are no Verizon phones with 4G hardware.

Actuall yes there is a way.. You go get yourself The HTC EVO 4G. use the sprint hotspot app and use sprints 4g speeds on your droid. I have used this myself and i recorded speeds of about 12-13mbps.

The Droid isn't on 4G in that situation. It's on WiFi.
