will DEX for PC ever work with Note 8?

[Android Central Question]

I have a Galaxy Note 8 (w/android 9). I have installed the new DEX for PC on my computer. I can see that this is meant for the new Glaxy Note 10. BUT can I expect that this feature also could work for then Note8? In the future perhaps? Or do I need to change to the Note 10 only for this reason?

Note 8 does work with dex

It should, but if you don't have a USB-C or USB 3.0 or newer port it won't work.

I'll try my daughter's Note 8 and see what happens.

Ok. When I got home, I plugged my daughter's Note 8 into my desktop. DeX did NOT activate. Even when I manually started the DeX app on my desktop.

I unplugged her phone and plugged in my Note 10+ and it worked fine.

It looks like DeX for the Note 8 will only work if you have a DeX Dock or equivalent to plug in to, to connect to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. I don't know if it will work on a Note 9 though. I don't have a Note 9 to test.
