Will I lose 3G on my smartphone if I don't recharge my card?

So again I have a question about prepaid phones. I've been wanting to buy the ZTE Obsidian T-Mobile Prepaid phone. So before I buy it, I want to be prepared. If I don't recharge my prepaid card for the phone will I lose 2G/3G/4G? Thanks for your responses.

You would not lose connection, but you would lose the ability to use it for anything, apart from emergency calls.
