Hi guys, (reposting from the AT&T since that forum seems to be dead :P)

I was wondering if any of you know if the AT&T version of the Galaxy S4 (i337) would work with a Tokyo SIM card... I'm traveling there for a few weeks and would really hate to be left at the mercy of free WiFi spots. I called my carrier (I'm not on AT&T but I know they use the same phone models) and they said I could only get voice, not data, if I purchased a roaming plan from them, so I'm wondering if that's because they don't have any data agreements with Japanese carriers or because my phone won't have working data over there at all.

Any ideas? Thanks!

i think i showed ya yesterday it had different bands. so what they told you was true. can you not rent a phone while your are there? chop chop

Oh, so that's what it was! Sorry, I really don't know which frequencies this S4 model has, so your link only showed me which bands were available in Japan... Sorry I didn't get the underlying info :)

So, my S4's a no-go for data :'( Bummer... I guess I could rent a phone, but that means setting up accounts, apps, networks, contacts, etc... Oh, well... let's see how it goes.

thanks!

Does anyone know if the samsung galaxy s7 is compatible with the sim cards in japan? And if so does anyone know any sim card rental companies? I’ll need to rent one for about 3 months so the cheaper the better but of course i’ll need to have a good amount of data as well. I was looking into places like econnect https://www.econnectjapan.com and https://www.genkimobile.com are these places any good? Any information would be helpful.
