Will rooting let me silence my camera?

Right now my camera shutter makes noise no matter what. After rooting, would I be able to silence it? If so, how?

Also, I'm watching a video right now on what a lot of these terms mean, but if anyone has any other advice, or a link to a basic rooting knowledge thread, I'd appreciate it. I definitely don't want to go into this sort of thing blind.

Yes, it will. What version (Sprint, AT&T, etc.) of the phone do you have? Check out this thread for a few different ways to silence it:

While I was able to make the sound go away with that app (yay), I found I wasn't very fond of the app itself. This is me being picky, but it seems like it would be easier to just edit the file and disable the sound on the app I like (easy after rooting, which I'm still reading into). Thank you for the app! It'll work while I decide.
